As modern technology and innovation pervade most aspects of our
lives, it brings many threats, and opportunities, but questions around
how to address them socially, environmentally, and economically persist.
Resisting the temptation to spin off in a dystopian spiral, the return
edition of the UnBox Caravan to Goa in 2018 brought together like-minded
friends, creatives, and contemporaries to explore concepts in future
living, craft, and expression.
It was a two week residency at the interdisciplinary studio The Green
House Goa, where nature and technology, predictability and surprise
intersected, and we collectively imagined technological wonders to
architectural ones, yesterday’s utopias to tomorrow’s.
The residency centred around multiple themes focusing on the future
but bringing in collective memory, local culture and rituals, and the
context of Goa that resonate with a number of event’s partners. The idea
was to co-create speculative futures projects that are manifested
through prototypes during the lab, and which would develop over the
months to follow, working towards a public showcase at our UnBox
Festival towards the end of 2018, beginning of 2019. It was also an
opportunity for the participants to find a new context to immerse
themselves in to find inspiration and hopefully a trajectory to create
new ideas and content with UnBox.
